Over 90,000 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru Cars Recalled Over Defroster Risk Over 90,000 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru Cars Recalled Over Defroster Risk

More than 90,000 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru vehicles are being recalled because of problems with their heating and cooling systems that could make it harder for drivers to see the road.

According to a Sept. 5 notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain 2023 to 2025 models may have faulty HVAC systems that can cause the electrical compressor to fail. If that happens, the defroster or defogger might stop working, raising the risk of a crash.

The fix is straightforward: dealers will update the HVAC software and inspect the compressor, replacing it if needed, all at no cost to the owner.

Which models are affected?

Roughly 94,000 vehicles are included in the recall:

  • Toyota bZ4X (2023–2025)
  • Lexus RZ (2023–2025)
  • Subaru Solterra (2023–2025)

Toyota, which owns Lexus and a stake in Subaru, will notify owners by mail starting Oct. 20.

What should owners do?

If your car is on the list, bring it to a Toyota, Lexus or Subaru dealership for the free software update. Dealers will also check the compressor and replace it if needed.

For questions, Toyota customers can call 1-800-331-4331 and mention the following recall codes:

  • bZ4X: 25TB07, 25TA07
  • Lexus RZ: 25LB04, 25LA04
  • Subaru Solterra: WRD-25
