New Delhi: India has expressed its disinterest in buying the fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter jet after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Indian imports.
According to a Bloomberg report, after President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, the Indian government has informed the US that it is not interested in buying the fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter jet from the US.
The report states that the Indian government is considering increasing purchases of certain items from the US to please the US President, but this does not include the purchase of defense equipment, including F-35 fighter jets.
It is worth noting that during Narendra Modi’s visit to the White House earlier this year, President Trump had offered to sell India fifth-generation fighter jets, which Modi had also promised to consider.
The report further states that India is not in a position to take any immediate countermeasures against Trump’s tariffs, nor does India want to anger the United States. India also wishes to continue bilateral trade talks with the United States.
