Netflix has dropped the first posters for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third chapter in Ryan Murphy’s hit true-crime anthology.

This season, Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of Ed Gein, the notorious murderer whose gruesome crimes partly inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, as well as horror classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

“In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare,” reads Netflix’s synopsis.

The streamer describes Gein as the “blueprint for modern horror,” citing his influence on Hollywood for decades. Season 3 is being billed as the show’s most disturbing installment yet.

Who’s in the cast?

Alongside Hunnam, the series features Suzanna Son, Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Joey Pollari, Tyler Jacob Moore, Charlie Hall, Will Brill, Mimi Kennedy, Robin Weigert and Lesley Manville.

The anthology launched in 2022 with Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, drawing both massive viewership and backlash. In 2024, Season 2 focused on Lyle and Erik Menendez, played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch. That season sparked controversy, with the real Menendez family accusing the show of spreading “horrible and blatant lies.” Netflix stood by the series, and Murphy defended it as the “best thing that has happened to the Menendez brothers in 30 years in prison.” Just last week, both brothers were denied parole in California.

When does it premiere?

Monster: The Ed Gein Story premieres October 3, 2025, on Netflix.
