The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are set to make history Friday night (Sept. 5) when they face off in São Paulo, Brazil the first international game of this NFL season. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Corinthians Arena, and both the weather and matchups could play a huge role in how this showdown unfolds.
Mahomes vs. Herbert: A Rivalry Renewed
This isn’t just another regular-season opener it’s the latest chapter in a heated AFC West rivalry. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will once again be the player to watch, as Kansas City looks to extend its dominance over the Chargers. A win here would mark the Chiefs’ eighth straight victory against L.A.
On the other side, Justin Herbert is aiming to kick off his season strong. With Keenan Allen back at his side, the Chargers’ QB has a chance to break through after last year’s disappointing Wild Card exit against the Houston Texans.
According to KCTV 5, the odds are tilted toward Kansas City. The Chiefs are 3.5-point favourites, sitting at –170 on the money line, while the Chargers trail at +145. The over/under for the game is set at 46.5 points.
Weather Could Be a Factor
Conditions at Corinthians Arena will be cool and damp under heavy cloud cover, according to NFL Weather.
- Kickoff: 61°F (feels like 58°F), cloudy, 8 mph winds from the southeast, 25% chance of rain, humidity at 87%.
- Conditions are expected to remain nearly identical throughout the second, third, and fourth quarters. Visibility may vary slightly, but overall, it’s looking like a gray and humid night.
While not extreme, the slick air and high humidity could make ball handling a little tricky.
Where to Watch
The 49,205-seat Corinthians Arena will be buzzing, but fans worldwide can tune in. Thanks to a new YouTube partnership with the Chiefs, the game and post-game press conferences will stream exclusively on the platform. NFL+ subscribers can also catch the action live.
This international opener sets the stage for a busy weekend: eight more games will kick off Sunday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. ET.
