Gaza: Palestinian resistance movement Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida has said that they are in favor of a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, but if such an agreement is not reached in the ongoing negotiations, then a full agreement may be demanded to end the conflict.
According to a report by the foreign news agency Reuters, Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida said that Hamas has been continuously offering the release of prisoners in Gaza and a permanent ceasefire agreement, but Israel has refused.
Abu Obeida said that if the enemy continues to be stubborn and moves away from this stage as before, then we cannot guarantee temporary agreements or the plan for 10 prisoners.
A statement issued by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that he was busy meeting with Pope Leo on Friday regarding the release of prisoners and efforts for a 60-day ceasefire, but no offer has been made to Hamas so far.
In the event of a possible agreement between Hamas and Israel, the bodies of 10 prisoners and 18 prisoners in Gaza will be returned and the agreement will last 60 days, and Israel will release several Palestinians in return.
A Hamas official said regarding the agreement that there is still a dispute over the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the method of providing aid to Gaza, and the guarantees of a possible agreement to make progress towards ending the war.
He said that there has been no breakthrough in the negotiations on the issues under discussion.
Hamas maintains that there should be an agreement that makes progress towards a permanent ceasefire, while Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says that the war can only end when Hamas is eliminated and its leadership leaves Gaza.
It should be noted that more than 58,600 Palestinians have been martyred so far in the war in Gaza launched by Israel on October 7, 2023, while according to Israeli officials, 1,650 of their people have been killed.
