Iga Swiatek captured the Cincinnati Open title with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Jasmine Paolini, claiming her first championship at the event. The six-time Grand Slam champion dropped no sets on her way to the final and converted all six break points to secure her 11th WTA 1000 trophy. This marks her first title since winning the Italian Open last year.

With the win, Swiatek becomes the second-most successful player in WTA 1000 history, behind only Serena Williams, who has 23 titles.

“I want to thank my team for pushing me to improve and helping me perform at the highest level,” Swiatek said. “I’m surprised and very happy to win.”

Paolini started fast, taking a 3-0 lead and putting Swiatek on the defensive. But Swiatek quickly turned the match around, winning five consecutive games to take the first set. She maintained her momentum in the second, saving two break points at 4-3 and extending her head-to-head record against Paolini to 6-0.

This victory also moves Swiatek back to world No. 2 and secures her second seed at the upcoming US Open, which begins this Sunday. Swiatek will also compete in the US Open mixed doubles event alongside Norway’s Casper Ruud.

Earlier, Carlos Alcaraz won the men’s Cincinnati Open title after top seed Jannik Sinner retired in the first set, capping off an exciting week of elite tennis.
