Jennifer Garner has finally shared the sweet story behind her eldest daughter’s name.
The 13 Going on 30 star, who shares three kids with ex-husband Ben Affleck, revealed that Violet Affleck was named after her grandmother, who also went by Violet.
Speaking to HELLO! magazine, Jennifer, 53, fondly remembered her grandma’s influence on her childhood and her family’s connection to food.
“I’m the daughter of a farmer and my mom. They had a sustenance farm. It was like a little spit farm in Oklahoma. They lived on it,” she said, explaining how her grandparents lived off what they grew, only buying essentials like sugar and vanilla.
One of her favorite memories involves her grandmother making homemade ice cream in the summer. “They would sit outside on a blanket and crank the ice cream. They’d finish a gallon, then go make another one and do it again,” Jennifer recalled.
She described growing up with a “super romantic notion” of her grandmother, who she admitted was tough as well as loving.
“My grandmother Violet was a ball buster,” Jennifer shared. “A fox got into the chicken coop one night. She went out and killed it, then fried up all the chickens until the sun came up. They had a feast in the middle of the night because she refused to let it go to waste. That’s part of family lore.”
Jennifer’s stories show just how much her grandmother Violet shaped her life — and why passing down her name to her daughter was so meaningful.
