Former The Mandalorian star Gina Carano has officially settled her wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, ending a high-profile dispute that began after she was fired from the hit Star Wars spin-off in 2021.
Carano, a former MMA fighter who portrayed Cara Dune on the Disney+ series, was removed from the cast following controversial social media posts — including one comparing being a Republican in the U.S. to being Jewish during the Holocaust.
The settlement, whose terms remain confidential, came after Elon Musk provided financial backing for her legal battle. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Carano called the agreement “the best outcome for all parties” and expressed hope that it would “bring some healing to the Force.” She thanked Musk for stepping in as a “Good Samaritan,” noting she has never met him in person but that he fully funded her lawsuit.
Carano’s original lawsuit for wrongful dismissal and gender discrimination alleged that two male co-stars had posted similar political opinions without facing penalties. She sought $75,000 in damages and reinstatement to The Mandalorian.
Back in 2021, Lucasfilm condemned her remarks for “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.” However, in a joint statement following the settlement, the production company described Carano as “a respected figure” who was dedicated to her craft and treated colleagues with kindness and respect. The statement also hinted at potential future collaborations.
Carano has previously faced backlash for mocking COVID-19 mask mandates and promoting false voter fraud claims related to the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, which Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden.
