A gunman in the US state of New York shot and killed five people, including a police officer, before shooting himself.
The shooting occurred in the Midtown Manhattan area of New York City. The gunman shot and killed five people, including police officer Deedar al-Islam.
A police officer and another citizen were shot in the back in the incident, but their condition is out of danger.
Witnesses say a man entered the building with a long gun. The 634-foot-tall building is located on Park Avenue and also houses the corporate offices of the National Football League and Blackstone. The building is unusually high in security.
Authorities identified the attacker as Shane Tamura and said he was a lone attacker. He entered the lobby of the building with a rifle, where he exchanged gunfire with a police officer. The gunman later fled to the 33rd floor.
The attacker has been described as a 27-year-old Las Vegas resident.
According to US media, the suspect had no criminal record. He was born in Hawaii and moved to Nevada. He had a handgun license and a private investigator license that had expired.
