The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee has decided to ban transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports.

The move comes in the wake of President Donald Trump’s executive order barring men from participating in women’s sports to prevent transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.

The U.S. Olympic Committee said in a statement that it will continue to monitor and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure a safe and fair competition environment for female athletes in accordance with Executive Order 14201 and the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act.

President Trump signed the order in February of this year, announcing that transgender athletes would not be allowed to participate in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The order issued by the Trump administration directs all government agencies, including the Department of Justice, to ensure that transgender girls and women are not able to participate in women’s sports at the school level and to effectively enforce this ban.

The decision is part of an ongoing debate in the United States in which concerns have been expressed about the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports and the move is being presented as providing equal opportunities for competition in women’s sports.
