More than 600 former top Israeli security officials have written a letter to US President Donald Trump urging him to play a role in an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Israeli media, the letter was sent by former heads of Mossad and Shin Bet (internal intelligence agency) and a former deputy chief of staff of the Israeli army, who are part of a group called Commanders for Israel Security (CIS). The group now includes more than 600 former senior security officers.

The letter told Trump: “Just as you played a role in stopping the war in Lebanon, intervene in Gaza now. Our professional analysis is that Hamas is no longer a threat to Israel.”

This is not the first time that the group has put pressure on the Israeli government. The group has also called in the past for a review of war strategy and the return of hostages.

Meanwhile, an Israeli professor at a British university has strongly criticized the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying: “Gaza’s aid centers now present a scenario of a squid game or hunger game, where hungry civilians go out for food and become victims of bullets.”

The professor added: “The Israeli leadership only shows verbal sympathy, but in practice is pushing Gaza towards starvation.”

Meanwhile, 92 more Palestinians were martyred in Israeli attacks on Sunday, including 56 people waiting for aid. Six more Palestinians died from food shortages, after which the number of people martyred due to famine has reached 175, including 93 children.
