Three Russian warplanes that violated Estonian airspace have been interdicted by Nato, the military alliance has said.
Estonia’s foreign ministry in Tallinn condemned the irruption as” brazen-faced”. It said three Russian MiG- 31 fighter spurts entered the airspace of a Nato member” without authorisation and remained there for a aggregate of 12 twinkles” on Friday over the Gulf of Finland.
Nato prophet Allison Hart said the military alliance” responded incontinent and interdicted the Russian aircraft”, but gave no farther details.
The Russian service has not intimately reflected on the issue.
Pressures have escalated between the Nato military alliance and Russia since Moscow launched a full- scale irruption of Ukraine in 2022.
They’ve risen in the last week, after Poland and Romania- both Nato members- said Russian drones traduced their airspace.
Estonia’s foreign ministry said it summoned the Russian chargĂ© d’affaires” to lodge a kick” over Friday’s irruption, while top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas described the incident as” an extremely dangerous provocation”.
In a statement, Estonian Foreign Minister Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said Friday’s irruption was” unprecedentedly brazen-faced”.
He continued” Russia’s decreasingly expansive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a nippy increase in political and profitable pressure.”
The minister added Russia had formerly violated Estonia’s airspace four times in 2025.
In a post on X, Kallas, who’s an Estonian public, said the EU” will continue to support our member countries in strengthening their defences with European coffers”.
She said Russian President Vladimir Putin was” testing the West’s resoluteness. We must n’t show weakness”.
Echoing her words, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on X” We’ll respond to every provocation with determination while investing in a stronger Eastern hand.
” As pitfalls escalate, so too will our pressure,” she added.
Estonian media are reporting that in the rearmost incident the Russian spurts had their transponders switched off.
Last week, Poland’s service said it had shot down at least three Russian drones, with high minister Donald Tusk saying 19 drones were recorded entering Polish airspace.
Russia claimed the incident was n’t deliberate, and its defence ministry said there had been” no plans” to target installations on Polish soil.
Belarus, a close Russian supporter, said the drones which entered Polish airspace were an accident, after their navigation systems were jammed.
Several days latterly, Romania’s defence ministry said it had detected a Russian drone when two F- 16 spurts were covering the country’s border with Ukraine, after” Russian air attacks on Ukrainian structure on the Danube( swash)”.
The ministry said the drone latterly faded from the radar.
Russia has not reflected on the reported irruption into Romanian airspace.
