Riyadh: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Holds High Level Phone Call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Gaza Crisis, Palestinian Statehood, and International Peace Conference
According to Saudi state media, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a high-profile telephone conversation discussing the Palestinian cause, the current humanitarian situation in Palestine, and the serious challenges facing the Palestinian people.
The leaders addressed the Gaza Strip crisis, its security implications, and the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict. During the talks, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of crimes committed against the Palestinian population and reaffirmed Riyadh’s firm support for the Palestinian struggle.
Both sides emphasized the urgent need for the international community to take decisive action to address the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and to ensure the protection of civilians. President Abbas praised the efforts of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in mobilizing global support for the Palestinian cause.
The conversation also covered preparations for the International Peace Conference scheduled for 22 September in New York, where global leaders are expected to discuss Middle East peace initiatives. President Abbas revealed that, thanks to Saudi diplomatic efforts, several nations have pledged to recognize the State of Palestine.
In a separate diplomatic engagement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also held a phone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Discussions focused on the Russia–Ukraine war and prospects for peace negotiations. The Crown Prince reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at ending the conflict, while President Zelensky expressed appreciation for Riyadh’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability.
