American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is proving to be more than just a music icon she’s an inspiration for young, aspiring artists around the world. Speaking at the Stand Up To Cancer fundraising special, which will air on August 15, Crow opened up about how her music continues to connect deeply with new generations of fans.
Crow reflected on why her songs resonate with younger audiences, saying, “The music you’re drawn to is often the music you’ve built memories with.” She explained that for many young fans, their parents played her hits when they were children, creating powerful emotional connections that last a lifetime.
The Grammy-winning country-rock artist recalled her own nostalgia for songs from the ’80s and ’90s, noting how certain tracks instantly take her back to where she was when she first heard them. “Music makes us feel, it makes us remember, and it brings us together,” Crow shared.
For young women pursuing their dreams, Crow believes her career serves as proof that it’s possible to keep creating and performing music for decades. “I think I’m a good example that you can keep going, keep writing, and keep playing,” she said.
Sheryl Crow’s Personal Battle with Breast Cancer
In a heartfelt moment, the “Soak Up the Sun” hitmaker revealed why supporting cancer research is so close to her heart. In 2006, Crow was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, but thanks to early detection and seven weeks of radiation therapy, she was declared cancer-free.
“This coming April marks 20 years of being cancer-free,” Crow said proudly. “For me, it’s about showing others who are fighting that there is hope and also celebrating the fact that I caught it early.”
Crow praised Stand Up To Cancer for its dedication to raising funds for groundbreaking research and treatment. She emphasized that the organization’s work has made a real difference in the fight against cancer.
Through her music, her perseverance, and her advocacy, Sheryl Crow continues to inspire not only her fans but also anyone facing life’s toughest challenges.
